John W. Sharp, a native of Kentucky, obtained 120 acres of land in southwestern Liberty Township from the Federal Government on February 20, 1849. On October 9, 1853 John W. and Mary Sharp deeded to John Larue, John Gibson and John Grishaw, trustees of Liberty Township, and their successors in office for $6.00, three-fourths of an acre from the northeast corner of their land to be used as a school and, if not, for a public burying ground.
